Five Principles of Energy and How They Help you Navigate your World

This blog post is inspired by a topic we discussed at a recent online miniature version of our Find Yourself workshop and we had so much fun with it we figured it would be a great topic to turn into a blog post, so even more people could learn this stuff!

Today’s post is about the five principles of energy. Understanding energy is crucial to gaining a better knowledge about who you truly are, how you influence the world, and how the world actually influences you as well.

This is a timely post since there’s so much grief in the collective consciousness right now in the time of COVID-19. It’s also an important topic for the reason that a lot of us are social-isolating with our significant other, roommate(s), or family members, and it’s a totally new experience to be spending every waking hour with the same person or people day in and day out! New challenges to relationships are cropping up and we are being forced to navigate these challenging times in such close confines with our people.

So, I encourage you to sit back, relax, and enjoy the following blog post! Consider each of the five principles and how they relate to you and how you operate in the world we’re living in today. I sense some “A-ha!” moments coming your way.

Let’s dive right in!

Principle #1: Everything is made of Energy

When you zoom in far enough, past the cellular and molecular level, you will find that 99.999% of matter is actually just “empty space”! Only 0.001% of matter is actually made up of protons, neutrons, and electrons. The reason that we can touch and see things is that our five physical senses are designed to detect things within the physical realm.

For example, if you were to use a powerful microscope to observe your hand, you’d find that you’re really mostly empty space! The reason you’re actually able to touch and see this empty space that takes the form of your hand, however, is because your senses, being a part of the physical realm, are designed to detect energetic densities from the physical realm.

This principle applies to animate and inanimate objects alike. Your body, a rock, an apple, and a thought are all equally alive and real, they are just made up of different types of energy.

Principle #2: Energy Permeates all Space

The space between objects, even though it isn’t dense enough for you to see it, is also made of energy. And the energy of different spaces may have different feelings.

Consider what the space within a shopping mall feels like in comparison to a forest, located just 500 meters away. The energy within the shopping mall is bustling, fast-paced, and perhaps impatient in a way, whereas the energy in a forest is typically very grounding, soothing, or calm.

We also happen to contribute to the energy within a space. Take the shopping mall example- the energy that permeates the space within a mall is largely an accumulation of the energies of the people constantly moving through the space! Though an empty shopping mall (after hours, let’s say) may feel a bit calmer, it still maintains that residual energy from years of bustling shoppers moving through its halls.

So this leads us to a natural point of reflection; how does our own personal energy contribute to the energy of the spaces we frequent often? During social distancing, your energy is likely most concentrated in the space of your home. It may be worth it to consider how the energy in your home has been lately and how your energy may be contributing to that- whether positively or negatively.

Principle #3: Energy has a Relatively High or Low Vibration

The energy of our physical bodies is relatively low vibration, which makes it denser compared to thought, for example. Because thought is so high vibration, and therefore low density, we can’t see it, but that doesn’t mean that it's not there or that it’s not real.

Here are a few other examples: a delicate flower is a higher vibration than a fake flower made of ceramic; a fresh-picked mint leaf gives off a higher vibration scent than burnt food. Even thoughts and feelings are relatively low or high vibration: “I can do it!” is a much higher vibration statement or thought than “I never do anything right.”

Different emotions also happen to have relatively high or low vibrations, which goes with the personal reflection I suggested you do for Principle #2. Check out where different emotions rank on the graphic below. Where do you spend most of your time on that list of emotions? It’s worth pondering!

Principle #4: Energy Travels in Waves

Every atom both gives off information in the form of vibrational waves and also absorbs vibration from everything around it. This means that you can “pick up” on the vibration of different people, places, and things. For example: when you lean against a tree, it’s vibrational waves wash over you and you may feel a change in your own energetic vibration after some time. You may have been feeling scatter-brained and stressed out (which may be the reason you felt the need for a walk), but after a few moments of leaning against a tree in a forest or park let’s say, you may start to notice you’re feeling a lot more calm and centered.

Another example of this is when you’re feeling cheerful and energetic while preparing dinner but your mood suddenly shifts towards tense and stressed out after your spouse comes home after a long day of stressful meetings at work. As you can see, the vibrational waves of different energetic states can affect you both positively and negatively.

Unfortunately, a lot of us don’t have much control over the energies we pick up on around us, which can be very energetically depleting. Strengthening your energetic resilience is possible though, using tools like loving-kindness meditations, kundalini yoga, and energy medicine (among many other things), so if this is you, there’s hope! Using these types of tools is even more crucial now in the times of collective stress that we’re living in, so if you don’t currently practise one of these regularly and you often find your energy becoming siphoned easily, I definitely recommend finding one you like.

Principle #5: High-Frequency Energy can Positively Affect Lower-Frequency Energy

Good news! Your good vibes really do make a difference in the world around you, according to this principle. A cool experiment that was conducted several years back really illustrates this principle well. A group of thousands of people across the world connected by the internet and prayed collectively at the same time for a specific region in the middle east. Levels of crime and violence were measured before and after the event in that region, and actually showed a decrease in crime and violence after the meditation.

This is also how energy healers or energy medicine practitioners, like our Eden Energy Medicine Practitioner Maddie, work their “magic”; they use their bodies as conduits for high-vibrational energy to release and move stagnant low-vibration energy within their clients’ energy fields.

This principle is a great reason why getting together even over the internet is so important right now! Something as simple as us connecting, raising our vibration together, can not only help the people in the group feel lighter and happier but also those around us and beyond.

There you have it! These five principles of energy I listed here today really only scratch the surface of the whole topic of energy in general, but I think understanding them can be extremely helpful for navigating the world we’re living in today. Some people dedicate their entire lives to studying this stuff- so if they sparked an interest in you, I highly recommend doing your own research to learn more!
